I stopped by the family compound after work. Sam and Max were in the battery-run play car driving in circles in the grass. Max sees me and says, "Di, Di, Di". And my heart melts. So what if he is equally excited when he points at the sky and shouts, "Bud, bud, bud". I could eat him up.
Sam is the devilish, loud, attention grabbing 2 and a 1/2 year old. Max is the quiet, extremely affectionate 15 month-old little fellow who is just fine with being slightly overshadowed by his big brother. Sam was imitating a frog yesterday, which involved putting on quite a show for his mom, aunt, and Nana. Big jumps off of the top of his play car, loud ribbits, fake falls, all the while checking our reception to his show and tailoring his performance accordingly. I happened to glance over and see Max off to the side doing his own frog imitation with little tiny jumps and quiet ribbits for his own entertainment. (Max's version of a frog also involves a few scary roars mixed inexplicably in with the ribbits.) He's quieter, but there is a lot going on in that little head.
